The human body contains nearly 2kg of bacteria and other microorganisms. These can be found on literally every surface of our skin and in our organs, including the stomach, mouth and intestines. (1)

About a third of this is common to all humans, but the remaining 2/3 is variable in composition, just like the pattern of our fingerprints. (1)

The totality of these bacteria is called the microbiome, and the number of microbes that make up the microbiome is about ten times greater than our own cells. (1)

The organism of an adult human contains nearly 100 trillion bacteria, with at least 1,000 different species, producing nearly 3 million genes, 150 times the human genome. (1)

These numbers show the importance of the microcosmos we live with. So important, in fact, that in recent decades the importance of the microbiome-gut-brain axis has been recognised (1)

The most common bacteria in the gut are bifidobacterium and lactobacillus species, which are also  widely studied in microbiology (1)

These bacteria are orally ingested and adhere to the GI tract to coexist closely with the human body as members of the normal GI tract flora.

Scitec Nutrition's ProB product contains four strains of live bacteria found in the human gastrointestinal tract, as well as 40 mg of vitamin C.
